Police arrested a motorist after a pursuit through Cayuga and Tompkins County.
According to a news release, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Christina M. Deuel, 44, for reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, and fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle.
On July 29, members of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Town of Scipio for a report of a motorist operating their vehicle while under the influence of drugs. It was also believed that a child was in the vehicle as well. Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, however the driver fled and refused to stop. A pursuit ensued with the vehicle traveling towards the City of Auburn, south through Cayuga County, into Tompkins County, and back into Cayuga County. Deputies were able to safely deploy stop sticks and disable the vehicle in the area of State Routes 38 and 90 in Locke. Once stopped, a 10-year-old child was located in the vehicle and Deuel was immediately taken into custody. No injuries were sustained by Deuel or the child.
Deuel will appear in the Locke Town Court at a later date.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Auburn Police Department, New York State Police, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cayuga County 911 Center.
