Wegmans has to pay $400,000 after data breaches leaks personal information of millions

Wegmans is set to have to pay $400,000 following a data breach discovered in 2021.

The breach was discovered in April 2021, when a security researcher found that a cloud storage container that had consumer information was unsecured.

In May the company discovered a second cloud storage container that was unsecured.

The state says more than 3 million consumers had personal information compromised. Around 830,000 of them were in New York.

Wegmans will have to pay $400,000 in penalties to the state.
