The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.
JP Sears made his second Major League start for New York and tossed 5 2/3 shutout innings. The left-hander earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Yankees plated both of their runs in the first two innings. Jose Trevino grounded one through the right side for a two-out RBI single in the first. In the second, Marwin Gonzalez smacked his third home run of the season into the seats in left-center.
New York had just five total hits and Gonzalez collected two of them.
The Yankees will go for the three-game sweep on Wednesday afternoon with Jameson Taillon on the mound. The first pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m.
