The New York Mets suffered one of their worst losses of the season on Tuesday night, falling to the Houston Astros 9-1 at Citi Field.
New York’s offense was completely shut down by left-hander Framber Valdez, who tossed eight scoreless innings. The Mets’ lone run came in the ninth inning on a bases-loaded walk by James McCann.
Starling Marte had three of the team’s eight hits.
Carlos Carrasco started on the mound for New York and surrendered six runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings. Chasen Shreve allowed three runs in relief. Trevor Williams and Adonis Medina had scoreless outings.
Kyle Tucker, Yordan Alvarez, and Yuli Gurriel homered for Houston.
The Mets will try to snap their two-game skid on Wednesday afternoon with Taijuan Walker on the bump. The first pitch is slated for 1:10 p.m.
