The New York Yankees had their 15-game home win streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Friday night at Yankee Stadium. Before this game, the last time the Yankees lost a game in the Bronx was May 23.
Luis Severino started on the mound for New York and was cruising through five shutout innings. Then, the right-hander ran into some trouble in the sixth and surrendered a three-run home run to Kyle Tucker, which ended up being the difference in the game. Severino allowed three runs on five hits over six innings while walking two and striking out seven.
The Yankees bullpen did a great job keeping the team in the game and giving them another opportunity to walk it off for the second straight night, but they fell just short despite bringing the tying and winning run to the plate in the ninth.
Giancarlo Stanton crushed a solo home run into the second deck in right off Justin Verlander in the sixth to put New York on the board. It was his 16th homer of the season. DJ LeMahieu had two of the team’s five hits.
The Yankees will try to bounce back on Saturday afternoon with Gerrit Cole on the bump. The first pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m.
