One dead after fatal three-car crash on 5&20 in Canandaigua

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on a fatal crash that happened at the intersection of State Route 5&20 and Buffalo Street Extension.

It was the second fatal crash in two days in Ontario County.

Deputies responded with Canandaigua Ambulance, East Bloomfield Fire and Ambulance, Cheshire Fire, and Finger Lakes Ambulance to a reported three-car crash on 5&20.

Investigation revealed that Charles McCaig, 86, of Victor was traveling east in an SUV and rear-ended a Subaru operated by Lorraine Fodera, 61, of Canandaigua.

Fodder’s vehicle was pushed to the side of the road- and struck another SUV traveling westbound.

Deputies said a 64- and 61-year-old in the third vehicle, as well as Fodera were treated at area hospitals with non life threatening injuries.

However, McCaig was pronounced dead at the scene.

5&20 was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the accident was reconstructed. Mercy Flight Central, Canandaigua Fire Department, and the Ontario County Fire Coordinator’s office assisted.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
