Mets fall to Astros in series opener, 8-2

The New York Mets fell to the Houston Astros, 8-2, in the series opener on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.

Trevor Williams made his sixth start of the season for New York and surrendered three runs on four hits over four innings while walking three and striking out two. Chasen Shreve allowed four runs in relief and Adonis Medina allowed one.

Pete Alonso and Eduardo Escobar smacked solo home runs, but the Mets couldn’t generate any more offense as they went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base. Alonso had three of the team’s eight hits.

Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, and Jose Siri homered for Houston.

New York will try to avoid the two-game sweep on Wednesday. The first pitch is slated for 2:10 p.m.
