A familiar face will be returning to the Bronx.
The New York Yankees announced Tuesday that they have claimed hard-throwing reliever Albert Abreu off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.
Abreu was traded from the Yankees to the Texas Rangers right before the start of this season as part of the deal that brought catcher Jose Trevino to New York. His stint with the Rangers did not last long as he was designated for assignment and traded to the Royals after just seven games. He appeared in four games with Kansas City before he was designated for assignment once again.
To make room for Abreu on the 40-man roster, New York designated reliever David McKay for assignment. The Yankees will have a week to trade him, release him, or attempt to pass him through outright waivers.
