The Senior Citizens League has been pushing for $1,4000 stimulus checks for seniors collecting Social Security.
However, legislation to support this hasn’t been introduced.
Will there be another stimulus?
As of right now, the only stimulus programs running are on the state level. That means Social Security recipients will not be getting a check for $1,400 as many had hoped.
The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) sent a letter to Congress in October 2021 proposing the stimulus for seniors. However, it doesn’t look like Congress plans to produce any legislation to honor the proposal.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) implemented a 5.9% raise in 2022 as the COLA. The annual COLA is calculated to account for inflation. That raise impacted about 70 million Americans. However, the TSCL said that seniors could really use the extra income and have started a petition to get stimulus checks worth $1,400.
