A longtime voice of local radio heard between Rochester and Syracuse is the latest casualty of mass media layoffs.
iHeartMedia has held another round of layoffs, which included “The Mayor” Pete Kennedy.
Website Radio Insight reported last week that the layoffs were happening at local stations across the country- as iHeartMedia’s revenue projections fell short of expectation.
“Revenue projections for the rest of the year are trending downward, which is leading to this round of cutbacks at iHeart’s local station operations as the company sets their budgets for the rest of the year,” an unnamed source told Radio Insight.
iHeartMedia cuts in radio have been typical over the last several years- with waves and rounds of cuts impacting several local stations.
As for the future of the stations Kennedy was heard on- it’s more syndication. By the end of the week, Y94 FM (94.5) in Syracuse, Sunny 102.3 in Canandaigua, and Radio 95.1 in Rochester all had removed Kennedy from the lineup card.
He was replaced by Rick O’Bryan, a Dallas based iHeart on-air host.
