Rochester Red Wings drop series finale to SWB RailRiders

The Rochester Red Wings dropped the series finale to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The RailRiders won the six-game series by taking four of six.

Most of the scoring came in the first three innings. Alcides Escobar, who is still on a rehab assignment with Rochester, put the Red Wings up 1-0 in the top half of the first with a sacrifice fly. However, the lead did not last long as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre plated four runs in the bottom half of the frame. Oswald Peraza started it with a solo home run. Later in the inning, Derek Dietrich hammered an RBI double to make it 2-1, and Auburn native Tim Locastro followed that with a two-run double.

Rochester scored three runs in the third to tie the game. Joey Meneses grounded an RBI single through the right side, Jake Noll lifted a sacrifice fly, and lldemaro Vargas ripped an RBI double.


Locastro broke the 4-4 tie in the eighth with his second home run of the season.

Andrew Stevenson, Cole Freeman, Josh Palacios, and Vargas each had two-hit games.

Sterling Sharp started on the mound for Rochester and surrendered four runs on eight hits over five innings while walking one and striking out five. Jace Fry and Curtis Taylor had scoreless outings in relief. Patrick Murphy allowed the go-ahead homer in the eighth and suffered the loss.

The Red Wings will get the day off on Monday before they begin a six-game series with the Syracuse Mets at Frontier Field on Tuesday night. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
