One city in California recently approved a UBI pilot program that works similarly to stimulus payments, paying $500 per month.
Instead of paying residents a stimulus check once, qualifying residents will see payments once per month for 12 months.
166 people will see the $500 monthly payments.
The program will cost around $1 million dollars and be funded with COVID-19 relief funds.
$580,500 was also approved to be used from the general non-operating fund the city owns.
Mountain View UBI Stimulus payments explained
The 166 people who qualify would see a total of $6,000 over the course of one year.
If there is additional funding, the program could last two years instead of just one.
