Stimulus UBI payment program starting in Providence, Rhode Island pays families $500 per month

Families in Providence, Rhode Island have started receiving $500 monthly stimulus UBI payments and continue to through Nov. 2022.

A pilot program with over 50 mayors from cities and towns throughout the U.S. have created the Mayors for a Guaranteed Income.

Included in the group is the Mayor of Providence, Jorge. O. Elorza.

This group works to provide a guaranteed income to low income Americans in need of the financial assistance.

The pilot program specifically for Providence is called the PVDGI Pilot program.

In Aug. of 2021, over 4,000 eligible residents applied to the program, but only 110 could be chosen.

The first payment was sent Nov. 15, and has been sent each month following that.

The payments will continue for one year.

The recipients were chosen at random and the city does not know people’s names or information.

Who is getting the stimulus UBI payments?

There are 110 people getting payments in all.

76% are women and 24% are men.

The median age is 39, with 8% between 18 and 24, 61% between 25 and 44, 28% between 45 and 64, and 2% that are 65 and older.

The median monthly income for participants is $913, with the average being $1,094.
