The New York Yankees made a couple of roster moves before Thursday’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Starting pitcher Luis Severino was placed on the COVID-19 injured list, and he will not start Thursday’s game as originally planned. Clarke Schmidt will start for New York instead. Manager Aaron Boone said Severino has not tested positive for COVID as of now. He had a fever and experienced chills on Wednesday night.
In a corresponding move, the Yankees signed right-hander Ryan Weber to a Major League contract and selected him to the 26-man roster from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Severino is 4-1 with a 2.80 ERA over 11 games this season. Weber has posted a 2.95 ERA over eight games at Triple-A.
