The Syracuse Mets’ offense exploded for a season-high 18 runs on 18 hits, including six home runs and six doubles, in Tuesday’s 18-6 series-opening win over the Norfolk Tides at Harbor Park.
Mark Vientos blasted two home runs and drove in a game-high five RBIs to lead Syracuse, while JT Riddle also homered twice and collected three RBIs. Luke Ritter and Daniel Palka both went deep as well. Palka finished with a five-hit game, and Nick Dini drove in three runs.
Thomas Szapucki started on the hill for the Mets and surrendered three runs on four hits over five innings while striking out eight. Locke St. John allowed three runs in relief. Yennsy Díaz and Joe Zanghi had scoreless outings.
Syracuse will send left-hander Mike Montgomery to the mound on Wednesday. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
