Ontario County Sheriff candidate Silvio Palermo vows to restore transparency and to bring an outsider’s perspective to the department as Sheriff.
Palermo: Supervisors’ report on Sheriff’s Office leaves questions unanswered
Appearing on Inside the FLX Tuesday, Palermo said the Ontario County Supervisors’ report of the problems within the department under former Sheriff Kevin Henderson left too many unanswered questions.
Henderson and Undersheriff David Frasca resigned after allegations of workplace harassment. Palermo’s opponent, David Cirencione, is currently a Lieutenant in the department. Palermo says he would bring a fresh, outside perspective to ensuring those problems don’t happen again.
Palermo would add a Public Information/Community Relation officer to the department. He also plans to focus on recruitment, as a number of officers have stepped down in recent years. Palermo believes every School District in the county should have a full-time School Resource Officer and he wants to establish a threat assessment team to identify potential problems before they lead to violence.
Palermos’s platform also calls for the creation of a Transitional Care Coordinator for jail inmates to provide services upon their release, in hopes of reducing recidivism. Palermo is holding a meet the candidate event at the Thirsty Turtle in Victor next Tuesday.
