Syracuse Mets swept by SWB RailRiders in doubleheader

The Syracuse Mets dropped both halves of a doubleheader against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium. The RailRiders won game one, 3-0, and game two, 6-4.

In the first game, Syracuse had four hits, and just one of them was an extra-base hit.

Nate Fisher started on the bump for the Mets and tossed three shutout innings. Trey Cobb allowed all three runs in relief, and Alex Claudio fired a scoreless frame.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre plated all three of their runs in the fifth inning. Armando Alvarez opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Greg Bird brought home a pair of runs with a double.


In the second game, Jose Rodriguez started on the mound and allowed five runs on nine hits over two innings. Locke St. John and R.J. Alvarez had scoreless outings in relief, while Bryce Montes de Oca surrendered a run.

Syracuse scored a pair of runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Daniel Palka smacked his 12th home run of the season, and Travis Blankenhorn delivered a two-run single.

The RailRiders scored five of their six runs in the first three innings.

Blankenhorn had three of Syracuse’s five hits.

The week-long series will continue on Saturday with the first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m.
