Come out Friday, June 17th for the opening of the Ovid Farmers Market and enjoy a free sample of vanilla ice cream from the Cornell Dairy Bar! Plus see all that Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension (SCCCE) offer with displays and handouts from 4-H Youth Development, Horticulture and Master Gardening, Agriculture and Nutrition.
Be sure to purchase fresh, local produce and other local products. Support your local farmers and producers and keep your hard earned dollars in your local community.
The Ovid Farmers Market is every Friday starting June 17th through October 7th from 3PM to 7PM, on the lawn area closest to Main Street in front of the Three Bears complex.
SCCCE will have free ice cream samples, fresh from the Cornell Dairy Bar, along with recipe handouts and information on gardening, agriculture, 4-H and recycling.
Also on tap for opening day is music from the South Seneca School Marching Band starting at 5PM and “The Ring of Chairraighe Celtic Dancers” from Horseheads, NY will perform from 6:30PM-7PM.
Come and find local, fresh produce of all kinds! Fresh picked right down the road. Also, there will be farm fresh eggs, fresh baked goods, cut flowers and flower arrangements, some homemade craft items and much more.
The produce vendor accepts Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons (given to senior citizens who qualify and to WIC recipients) and SNAP recipients will be able to spend their SNAP benefits on any SNAP eligible items at the market. For every $5 a SNAP recipient spends from their benefits, they will receive a free $2 coupon to spend at the market. See the market manager to use your SNAP benefits and buy local!
The key to the farmers’ market is promoting locally grown and produced items and providing residents with access to local, fresh fruits and vegetables and other products. We have the vendors coming to the market, now all we need are customers! So plan to attend the markets from now until October, rain or shine! Follow the markets Facebook page for current information and vendor updates. Hope to see you there!
