The New York Mets dropped their third series of the season with a 13-2 loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night at Petco Park.
Chris Bassitt started on the bump for New York and surrendered seven runs (six earned) on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings while walking two and striking out six. Stephen Nogosek allowed four runs in relief, and Joely Rodríguez allowed two (one earned). Adam Ottavino and Seth Lugo had scoreless outings.
The Mets scored both of their runs in the seventh inning. Jeff McNeil had a run-scoring single, and another run later scored after Luis Guillorme grounded into a double play.
McNeil had two of New York’s five hits.
The Mets will get the day off on Thursday before beginning a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels.
