Dollar Stores like Dollar Tree have grown in popularity across the U.S. in recent years, especially for families on a budget.

As inflation and gas prices soar, families are looking for the best deals possible to feed and take care of their families.

Dollar stores seem to have really stepped their game up, and many are realizing they’ve actually been missing out on chances to save money for years.

The pandemic and the job loss with health issues really put a financial strain on millions, so these opportunities to save money are welcomed by many.

GoBankingRates recently shared a list of items for what should and should not be purchased at Dollar Tree.

Here are 5 items you should always get at the Dollar Tree

First is picture frames.

Many of the frames sold have kept up with what’s in style, so depending on your decoration style, there may be one for you.

People have found metal or rustic frames when shopping at the Dollar Tree.

Another item to purchase from the store is candy.

At just $1 per item, you can get plenty of candy to either stock up on or to use for holidays.

Hygiene products for personal care are great items to buy from the Dollar Tree.

This includes hair ties, hair clips, headbands, brushes, toothbrushes, and other basic necessities.

Glasses, mugs, and anything to drink out of is a great find at the store.

If you need a new set of drinkware, you could always purchase them there.

Not only will they match, but at $1 per glass, it’s quite the deal.

Finally, greeting cards are so much cheaper at the Dollar Tree than any other store.

Name brand cards like Hallmark can be expensive as $1 per card, and sometimes the Dollar Tree will sell that brand for $1.

Here are 5 items you should never get at the Dollar Tree

One item that may seem like a good deal at the Dollar Tree is gift wrapping paper.

It makes sense that something used once and will be discarded should be purchased at such a low price. Unfortunately, the quality isn’t great.

The next item you should avoid are items like laundry detergent.

While you may find name brands, the sizes are small and you’re actually paying more per ounce. This is compared to buying a bigger jug from a store like Walmart.

Batteries purchased at these types of stores are usually an odd brand. They will not last as long as name brand batteries.

Medications aren’t a good item to purchase due to their potentially soon expiration date.

If the store isn’t shopped at often, then the medications, like Advil, may have been sitting on the shelves for some time.

Finally, canned goods aren’t the best deal at stores where they cost $1.

The cans are often smaller than the bigger brands that places like Walmart carries.

You’ll get a bigger bang for your buck at a place like that.
