The New York Yankees cruised past the Detroit Tigers, 13-0, in the series opener on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
Gerrit Cole dominated as he was perfect through 6.2 innings. Jonathan Schoop broke up the perfect game with a two-out single to center. Cole finished with seven shutout innings to go along with nine strikeouts. Manny Bañuelos made his first appearance with the Yankees and tossed two shutout innings.
Jose Trevino, Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Matt Carpenter homered. DJ LeMahieu drove in a pair of runs, while Aaron Hicks also collected an RBI. Trevino also had a two-run triple. Judge finished with a four-hit night.
Luis Severino will get the ball on Saturday afternoon as the Yankees will try to keep it rolling. The first pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m.
