A cold front will move southeast into Western New York during the early afternoon hours, according to the Storm Prediction Center. Ahead of the frontal boundary dewpoints will be in the 60s- creating enough instability in the atmosphere to generate thunderstorms.
Severe thunderstorms will be possible today for most of the area. First this morning for the North Country, and then in the afternoon and evening for the entire area as a cold front tracks across WNY and the North Country. pic.twitter.com/1FpURligil

Who will see thunderstorms?
Everyone will see precipitation by the end of the day. However, not everyone will see strong to severe thunderstorms.
Thunderstorm coverage is expected to expand along the frontal boundary as the afternoon hours progress. The cold front will march across the region- ushering in cooler weather for the remainder of the week.
The biggest threat with these storms will be damaging winds, small hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rain. There shouldn’t be any significant flood risk, since most of the region remains slightly dry for the year.
