Two arrested locally after South Carolina shooting leaves 6-year-old dead

On Friday, deputies received information that a vehicle involved in a homicide in Orangeburg County, South Carolina was observed in Ontario County.

Investigators made contact with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office and learned that they were looking for a silver Chrysler sedan that was observed fleeing the scene of a driveway shooting that happened on May 12, 2022.

A 6-year-old was inside the home where the drive by shooting occurred. They were struck by gunfire and killed.

Investigators learned that days later the vehicle was also involved in an incident in Geneva.


Investigators located the vehicle of interest in Palmyra. It was stopped by deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s office, and the occupants were detained and transported to Ontario County to be interviewed.

Simultaneously, the vehicle information was provided to authorities in South Carolina, who began a review in relation to the homicide investigation.

Subsequently, an adult male who was not identified was charged with first-degree murder. Authorities in Ontario County say a warrant was obtained for the arrest of the 17-year-old, who was driving the vehicle stopped in Wayne County for first-degree murder.

Authorities said that given the ongoing nature of the investigation, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office would not provide any further information at this time.
