The New York Yankees blanked the Baltimore Orioles, 2-0, on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.
Left-hander JP Sears made his first Major League start and tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while striking out five and walking two. The bullpen did an outstanding job as well. Ron Marinaccio (2.0 IP), Lucas Luetge (0.2 IP), Miguel Castro (0.1 IP), and Clay Holmes (1.0 IP) had scoreless outings. Holmes picked up his fifth save of the season.
The only runs of the game came in the fourth inning. Miguel Andújar lined an RBI single to left-center, and Gleyber Torres scored on a throwing error.
Andújar had two of New York’s six hits.
The Yankees will head to St. Petersburg, Florida to begin a four-game series with the Rays on Thursday night. Nestor Cortes will get the start. The first pitch is slated for 6:40 p.m.
