The Syracuse Mets snapped a four-game skid with a 7-3 victory over the Rochester Red Wings on Wednesday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium.
Syracuse jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they held on for the win.
Connor Grey got the start for the Mets and fired six shutout innings. The right-hander improved to 3-1 on the season. Locke St. John struggled in relief as he allowed three runs while R.J Alvarez recorded the final five outs of the game.
Daniel Palka clubbed a three-run home run in the first inning to open the scoring and give Syracuse a 3-0 lead.
The Mets extended their lead to 4-0 in the second on Johneshwy Fargas’s sacrifice fly.
Khalil Lee, who just returned to Syracuse’s lineup on Tuesday, smacked an RBI double in the fifth to increase the lead to 5-0.
In the seventh, Mark Vientos crushed a two-run home run to make it 7-0.
All three of Rochester’s runs came in the eighth on one swing of the bat. Jake Noll drilled a three-run home run to cut Syracuse’s lead to four.
Jake Mangum collected three hits for the Mets in his second career Triple-A game.
Game three of the six-game series is slated for Thursday at 6:35 p.m.
