New York Yankees reliever Chad Green will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, manager Aaron Boone announced Sunday.
“It’s tough news, but with this surgery, it’s usually something that pitchers are able to return from. I know he will. He’s an outstanding athlete that takes great care of himself and has a really good work ethic. I know that in time, he’ll be fine. I expect him to pitch several more years at the level we’ve come to expect.”
Green left Thursday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with the UCL injury.
The right-hander posted a 3.00 ERA over 15 innings this season.
This is a big blow to the bullpen as he has been one of New York’s best high-leverage relievers since the 2017 season.
