Cornell advances to Final Four with win over Delaware

The Cornell Big Red men’s lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Final Four with a 10-8 victory over the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens on Sunday afternoon at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

The game was tied 7-7 going into the fourth quarter, but Cornell netted three fourth-quarter goals and played outstanding defense to secure the victory.

Michael Long and John Piatelli led the Big Red with three points apiece while Spencer Wirtheim scored twice. Angelo Petrakis dominated the face-off circle, winning 15-of-19 and goalkeeper Chayse Irelan made 15 saves.

Tye Kurtz had five of Delaware’s eight goals and goalkeeper Matt Kilkeary made 12 saves.

Cornell will meet sixth-seeded Rutgers in the semifinals on Saturday, May 28 at Rentschler Field.
