Yates County reaches agreement with Cayuga County for use of tower site

Yates County has reached an agreement with Cayuga County to use a communications tower as part of Yates County’s $5 million expansion of emergency communications.

Tower will provide coverage in eastern Yates County

The tower is in the town of Ovid, in Seneca County. Yates County Administrator Nonie Flynn says using the tower will improve coverage in the eastern part of Yates County, and she says Cayuga County is offering the use of the property and the tower for free.

The agreement allows Yates County to place a standby generator and propane fuel tank on the site and to shelter communications equipment, as well as the use of the tower.

The legislature also awarded the bid for tower construction at the Ovid site and Bluff Point to Kaplan-Schmitt Electric of Rochester for $247,630. Listen to my full Inside the FLX conversation with Yates County Administrator Nonie Flynn below.
