Below is a press release from the Geneva Theatre Guild:
“Join us for the 50th Anniversary of one of the most daring and dramatic pieces of our time, Cabaret!
Auditions will take place on May 31st and June 1st at the Geneva Presbyterian Church located on 24 Park Pl Geneva NY 14456 (The entrance to the church parking lot is off Washington Street). The production will take place August 4-7 in the Barlett Theatre (Coxe Hall) on the Hobart-William Smith Campus.
In this fully immersive production we bring you to 1930’s Germany in a seedy and raucous nightclub where the Master of Ceremonies enthralls you with sex and celebration as we follow the lives of Cliff, an American novelist newly arrived in Berlin, and Sally Bowles, the nightclubs premiere singer from England, as they meet and entwine at the Cabaret, while also following Fräulein Schneider, the proprietor of the nearby boarding house, and her blossoming romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. Cabaret explores the dark, inebriating, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s denizens and expatriates as the seeds of fascism and the rise of the Third Reich emerge on its very doorstep.
Winner of eight 1967 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Composer/Lyricist and four 1998 Tony Awards for Revival, Actor, Actress, and Featured Actor.
