The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley is powering forward and continuing to support local women and girls by hosting its 16th annual A Purse for Change Auction at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. This year’s event will be hosted at the Temple B’rith Kodesh synagogue, 2131 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14618. All proceeds will benefit and support women and girls living in the Greater Rochester area and surrounding counties.
Of the more than 4 million people who have left the workforce since February 2020, nearly 60% — 2.4 million — are women. Single parents, especially single female heads of households, face the greatest challenges. The economic downturn resulting from the pandemic has disproportionately hurt women’s employment, and the effect will be long-lasting. With few resources to support childcare and ongoing financial instability, the Women’s Foundation has pledged itself to helping women and girls move forward instead of falling behind.
The Purse for Change designer purse auction is one of Rochester’s premier social events, featuring engaging entertainment, luxury raffles, food, wine and more than150 designer purses.
“It is critical now more than ever to place supportive scaffolding around our most vulnerable women and girls. This philanthropic event brings us together for a fun night of shopping and networking while giving back to our community.” —Krystle Ellis, Interim Executive Director, Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley
