Canandaigua woman accused of receiving over $56,000 in benefits illegally

Police say a Canandaigua woman was taken into custody following a larceny investigation.

According to a news release, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jennifer Race, 35, of Canandaigua for grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing.

It was discovered that Race had defrauded the Ontario County Department of Social Services and the Geneva Housing Authority by failing to report the father of her children living with them. The amount of SNAP benefits stolen from OC DSS is over $19,000 and the amount of housing benefits stolen from GHA is over $37,000.
