The Rochester Red Wings pushed their win streak to eight games with a 9-5 victory over the Worcester Red Sox on Saturday evening at Polar Park.
Rochester pounded out nine runs on 14 hits. Andrew Stevenson went 5-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Luis Garcia collected three hits and Joey Meneses had two.
Garcia crushed a two-run home run over the left-field wall in the third to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead.
Rochester plated four runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 6-0. Richard Urena started the four-run inning by grounding one through the middle for an RBI single. Alfredo Rodriguez followed that with a two-run double to center. Stevenson capped off the inning with an RBI single to right.
Ryan Fitzgerald lined an RBI double to right in the fifth to put Worcester on the board. In the seventh, Fitzerald brought home another run with a groundout.
Stevenson smoked an RBI double to right in the top half of the eighth to make it 7-2. In the bottom half of the frame, the Red Sox scored three runs to make it a two-run game. Triston Casas worked a bases-loaded walk, Rob Refsynder had an RBI groundout, and the third run scored on a wild pitch.
The Red Wings responded in the ninth with a pair of runs on a wild pitch and a passed ball.
Sterling Sharp got the start for Rochester and fired four shutout innings.
The two teams will wrap up the six-game series on Sunday afternoon. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
