The New York Mets blew a 4-0 on Saturday night but it didn’t come back to hurt them as they defeated the Seattle Mariners, 5-4 at Citi Field.
Chris Bassitt got the start for New York and allowed one run on five hits over 5.2 innings while walking three and striking out eight. Seth Lugo and Chasen Shreve combined to allow three runs in relief.
Francisco Lindor put the Mets up 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI single to right.
Lindor made it 2-0 in the third with a sacrifice fly to right. Later in the inning, Jeff McNeil lifted a sacrifice fly to right to increase the lead to 3-0.
Pete Alonso smoked an RBI double to left in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0.
Steven Souza Jr. put Seattle on the board in the sixth with an RBI single to left.
Jesse Winker tied the game in the seventh with a three-run homer to right-center.
Patrick Mazeika put New York back on top in the seventh with a solo shot to right.
Starling Marte had three of the team’s seven hits.
The Mets will try to take two of three from the Mariners on Sunday afternoon. The first pitch is slated for 1:10 p.m.
