The Syracuse Mets fell erased a three-run deficit to defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 8-7, on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Field.
Syracuse struck first in the second inning. Mark Vientos launched a solo home run over the right-field wall to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre responded in the third with four runs, two of which were unearned.
However, the lead didn’t last long as Syracuse plated four runs in the fourth to take the lead. Vientos smacked his second home run of the game, a solo shot to left-center. Later in the inning, Nick Plummer cleared the bases with a three-run double to center.
The Mets added a run in the fifth on a fielding error to make it 6-4.
Plummer homered to right-center in the sixth to increase the lead.
The RailRiders made it a one-run game with a two-run homer to left-center in the seventh.
Plummer put Syracuse back up by two runs with an RBI double to left in the eighth. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre capped off the scoring in the game with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Plummer finished with a home run, two doubles, and five RBIs while Vientos hit two homers.
Rob Zastryzny got the start for Syracuse and allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits over three innings while walking two and striking out four. Eric Orze and Colin Holderman combined to allow three runs (two earned) in relief. Jose Rodriguez tossed three shutout innings.
The two teams will continue the six-game series on Thursday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
