Groups rallied in Geneva last Wednesday to protest the U.S. Supreme Court’s pending decision that would overturn Roe v. Wade.
The Geneva branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) organized the Defend Roe Emergency Rally that took place on Wednesday, May 4 at the corner of North and Exchange Streets.

The rally was part of nationwide emergency actions organized by the PSL for May 4-8. Other events in New York include rallies in New Paltz and Manhattan, both of which took place on Saturday, May 7.
The Geneva PSL called 2021 the “worst year for abortion rights in almost 50 years, according to the Guttmacher Institute, which gathers statistics on abortion. With the recent leak of the majority draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, 2022 is shaping to be even worse. The future of Roe v. Wade is at stake,” according to Finger Lakes Times.
The Supreme Court began hearing Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization last year. The case concerns Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act which, if upheld, would ban elective abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Roe v. Wade allows elective abortions up to 28 weeks of pregnancy.
