Nestor Cortes throws one-hit gem as Yankees blank Rangers in series finale

The New York Yankees won their sixth consecutive series on Monday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over the Texas Rangers at Yankee Stadium.

Left-hander Nestor Cortes got the start for New York and was outstanding. He tossed 7.1 shutout innings and allowed just one hit while striking out 11. Cortes took a no-hitter into the eighth, but Rangers centerfielder Eli White broke it up with a one-out single to center.

Clay Holmes recorded the final two outs of the eighth and picked up the win after Aroldis Chapman nailed down the save in the ninth.

Anthony Rizzo drove in the only run of the game with an RBI double to left-center in the eighth.

The Yankees will begin a quick two-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night in the Bronx. Luis Severino is scheduled to start.
