Mets split doubleheader with Phillies

The New York Mets split a doubleheader with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia won the first game, 3-2. New York won the second game, 6-1.

In Game 1, Max Scherzer got the start and allowed three runs on 10 hits over six innings. He suffered his first loss of the season. Joely Rodríguez and Adam Ottavino each fired a scoreless inning in relief.

The Mets scored both of their runs in the sixth. James McCann grounded into a double play, but a run scored and Francisco Lindor hammered an RBI double to right.

Bryce Harper had a home run and an RBI single to lead the Phillies. Bryson Scott drove in Philadelphia’s other run with an RBI single.


Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte each had multi-hit games.

In Game 2, Chris Bassitt tossed five innings of one-run ball for the Mets. Chasen Shreve, Drew Smith, and Seth Lugo each had a scoreless outing in relief.

Pete Alonso provided most of the offense as he homered twice and collected five RBI. The Mets scored their sixth run of the game on a wild pitch.

Jean Segura homered for the Phillies.

The Mets will get the day off on Monday before they begin a three-game series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
