The Syracuse Mets offense came alive on Sunday afternoon as they rolled past the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 11-4, in the series finale at NBT Bank Stadium.
Syracuse pounded out 15 hits and 11 runs, including three home runs.
Patrick Mazeika opened the scoring in the first inning and gave the Mets a 1-0 lead with an RBI double to right.
Nick Dini belted a solo home run over the wall in left-center in the fourth to make it 2-0.
Syracuse plated three runs in the sixth to increase the lead to 5-0. Mark Vientos launched a two-run home run over the right-field wall and one batter later, Dini crushed his second homer of the game.
Austin Wynns drilled a three-run shot over the left-field wall in the seventh to put Lehigh Valley on the board and make it a 5-3 game. In the bottom half of the frame, the Mets put up a six-spot. Khalil Lee smoked an RBI double to right. Vientos followed that with a two-run single to center and Dini, Quinn Brodey, and Travis Blankenhorn each drove in a run with a single.
Lehigh Valley’s second run of the game came in the eighth when Dalton Guthrie hammered an RBI single to left.
Left-hander David Peterson got the start for the Mets and tossed five shutout innings and allowed four hits while walking three and striking out eight. Anthony Vizcaya, Alex Claudio, and Colin Holderman combined to allow four runs in relief.
Syracuse will get the day off on Monday before they begin a six-game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Tuesday. The first pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
