The New York Mets announced Saturday that they have claimed infielder Gosuke Katoh off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays and assigned him to Triple-A Syracuse. The Mets already had an open spot on the 40-man roster, so they did not have to make an additional move.
Toronto designated Katoh for assignment on Wednesday because they needed to clear a roster spot for a pitcher.
Katoh, 27, has hit .292/.383/.457 in just over 700 career Triple-A plate appearances. He has appeared in just eight MLB games over his career.
