Four-run third lifts Syracuse Mets over Lehigh Valley IronPigs

The Syracuse Mets snapped a two-game skid with a 5-3 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

Syracuse scored early and the bullpen held onto the lead.

Darick Hall opened the scoring for Lehigh Valley with an RBI single to center in the top half of the third. In the home half of the inning, the Mets scored four runs to take the lead. Wyatt Young smoked an RBI single to center to tie the game. Nick Plummer put Syracuse on top with an RBI single to center. One batter later, Travis Blankenhorn picked up an RBI with a groundout. Patrick Mazeika capped off the inning with an RBI groundout as well.

Austin Wynns made it a one-run game in the fourth with a two-run shot to left-center.


Mazeika plated Syracuse’s fifth run of the game in the fifth with an RBI single to right.

Jefry Rodriguez got the start for the Mets and allowed three runs on five hits over four innings while walking one and striking out five.

R.J. Alvarez and Alex Claudio each tossed two shutout innings in relief while Colin Holderman also fired a scoreless frame.

The two teams will continue the six-game series on Thursday night. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
