Two Geneva Police Department (GPD) officers were recognized in a ceremony last week after being promoted to two key positions within the department.
The ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 27 at the Public Safety Building. The first promotion went to Officer John VanSavage in March: He was promoted to sergeant and is now supervising road patrol, according to Finger Lakes Times. He began his career with the Ontario County sheriff’s office in 2008 prior to being hired by the GPD in 2011. He was assigned to GPD’s drug enforcement unit from 2013 to 2016.
Detective Matt Colton was promoted to lieutenant on April 24: He oversees the detective bureau. He began his career with GPD in 2011 as a road patrol officer before being promoted to detective in 2014. Colton served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 2009 to 2021.
