Man arrested in Rochester after breaking into home and stealing vehicle

Police say a man was arrested following investigation into a domestic incident.

According to a news release, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested John Montes, 36, for burglary, grand larceny, criminal contempt, criminal obstruction of breathing, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal mischief.


It is alleged Montes broke into a woman’s residence and got into an altercation with her. He placed his hands around the victim’s neck while she was attempting to call 911 for emergency assistance. Montes then stole the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene to the City of Rochester. He was located shortly thereafter in the Town of Irondequiot where he was taken into custody for the above charges. 

Montes is due to appear in the Town of Ontario Court at a later date.
