Maine’s legislature just approved a budget that includes stimulus checks.
More than 850,00 Maine residents will get a $850 stimulus check.
Who is eligible?
The stimulus checks are designed as inflation relief. It is estimated that 858,000 residents will be eligible for the payment. The budget passed plans to return half of the budget surplus back to taxpayers, a total of $729.3 million. Read more about it here.
There is no wage requirement to get this benefit. Maine expects to distribute 333,000 checks to residents through this program.
Full-time residents of Maine that filed a 2021 tax return and meet the income threshold will get the check. In order to qualify your federal adjusted gross income (FAGI) must be less than:
- $100,000 if filing single or married filing separately
- $150,000 if filing head of household
- $200,000 for couples filing jointly
If you are claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return you won’t be eligible. Maine Revenue Services have a website for the relief checks.
The first round of checks will likely go out this June.
