One hospitalized after van pulls in front of sedan at 414/Thruway intersection in Tyre

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on the crash that happened at the intersection of State Route 414 and the New York State Thruway on-ramp in the town of Tyre.

On Saturday around 9:45 p.m. deputies responded to the intersection for a two vehicle crash with injuries.

An investigation determined that a van operated by Joel McLeod, 45, of Batavia attempted a left turn on Route 414 onto the Thruway on-ramp, and failed to yield the right of way to southbound traffic.


The minivan was struck on the passenger side by a sedan operated by Claudette Turo, 67, of Genoa.

At the time of the accident there was one additional passenger in each of the involved vehicles. According to deputies, a 25-year-old was looked over by EMS on scene and did not require further treatment.

A 77-year-old was treated at Geneva General Hospital.

Turn suffered the most-severe injuries, according to a news release. The minivan and sedan sustained significant damage.

Eagle Auto responded and removed the minivan. Stevers responded to the scene and removed the sedan.

North Seneca Ambulance and the Clyde Fire Department responded to the scene.
