Rochester Red Wings fall to Lehigh Valley IronPigs

The Rochester Red Wings two-game win streak came to an end on Saturday night with a 10-8 loss to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Coca-Cola Field.

Lehigh Valley jumped out to an early lead and never trailed. However, Rochester did rally back and make things interesting.

Logan Verrett got the start for the Red Wings and surrendered three runs over two innings. The bullpen also struggled as Ben Braymer allowed five runs (four earned) and Carson Teel allowed two.

Donny Sands opened the scoring for the IronPigs with a RBI single to center in the first inning. Darrick Hall followed that with a two-run shot to right.

Joey Meneses put Rochester on the board in the top half of the fourth with a RBI double to right. In the bottom half of the frame, Lehigh Valley plated five runs to increase the lead to 8-1. Ronald Torreyes started the five-run fourth with a RBI fielder’s choice. Later in the inning, Hall smoked a two-run double to right and Nick Maton capped off the inning with a two-run single to center.

The Red Wings scored three in the fifth to cut Lehigh Valley’s lead to four. Jake Noll smashed a RBI double to left and Meneses line a two-run single to center.

In the sixth, Chris Herrmann made it a three-run game with a RBI single to center.

Herman then cut the IronPigs lead to two with a RBI groundout in the top of the eighth. In the bottom half of the inning, Hall homered to right-center to make it 10-6.

Rochester added a pair of runs in the ninth to cut the lead to two again, but fell just short. Meneses and Richard Urena drove in runs with singles.

The Red Wings will go for the series split on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m.
