Syracuse Mets roll past Worcester Red Sox for fourth straight win

The Syracuse Mets extended their win streak to four games with a 13-3 victory over the Worcester Red Sox on Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

Right-hander Connor Grey got the start for Syracuse and allowed three runs over 4.2 innings while striking out four. The bullpen did an excellent job as Colin Holderman, R.J. Alvarez and Antonio Santos combined for scoreless appearances.

Christin Stewart opened the scoring for Worcester in the top half of the first with a RBI single to center. In the bottom half of the inning, Syracuse put up a five-spot. Matt Vientos tied the game at one with a sacrifice fly to left and Carlos Cortes crushed a grand slam over the wall in right-center.

Worcester cut Syracuse’s lead to 5-3 in the third after Yolmer Sanchez homered to right. However, that was as close as the Red Sox would get.

In the fourth, Cortes picked up his fifth RBI of the game with a RBI single to center.

Daniel Palka crushed a two-run home run to right-center in the fifth to extend the lead to 8-3.

Nick Plummer made it 9-3 in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to left.

The Mets added four more runs in the seventh. Quinn Brodey picked up a RBI with an infield single and then Cody Bohanek followed that with a three-run shot to left.

Nick Meyer also collected two hits in the win for the Mets.

Syracuse goes for its fifth consecutive win on Saturday night as the two teams continue the six-game series at 6:35 p.m.
