Yankees blanked by Tigers in series finale, 3-0

The New York Yankees were shut out by the Detroit Tigers, 3-0, in the series finale at Comerica Park.

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery got the start and threw the ball very well, but once again did not get any run support. He allowed just one run on three hits over six innings while striking out five and walking two.

New York’s bullpen allowed two runs in the eighth.

The Yankees had seven hits and just one of them was an extra-base hit. Their best scoring opportunity came in the eighth when they had runners on the corners with nobody out.

Detroit’s first run of the game came in the third inning after Robbie Grossman lined a RBI double to left. In the eighth, Austin Meadows dunked one into shallow center for a two-out, two-run double.

The Yankees will head back to the Bronx to begin a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night. Jameson Taillon will get the start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
