If you’ve paid your taxes and haven’t gotten a refund, there could be several reasons for the delay. The IRS agency says the refund will likely be received within 21 days of it being accepted. Read more about it here.

When filing electronically, it should take the IRS three days to accept the return. However, if you file via mail, it could take six weeks to get your refund.

An error on your tax return could be the reason for the delay. There was likely a minor mistake causing a delay on your return if you didn’t double check your information. If there is a problem that needs to be fixed after it had been submitted, the IRS will first try to fix it without contacting you.

If you want to track your refund, the IRS has a tool for that. The IRS tool is called ‘Where’s My Refund?’ and will display the status of the most recent refund. The page is updated once daily, usually overnight.
