A video showing Syracuse Police Department officers taking a young boy into custody has gone viral on social media.
The video shows three officers taking an 8-year-old boy into custody for allegedly stealing a bag of chips, according to Kenneth Jackson, the man recording the video. Jackson first posted the video to Facebook on Sunday, April 17. It has since been reshared by hundreds of thousands of users on Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms.

The Syracuse Police Department released the following statement on Tuesday, April 19:
Response to the video has been mixed, with some viewers expressing outrage at the situation while others defend the officers, saying they were doing their job. The 8-year-old boy was driven home, where officers talked to his father. No charges were filed.
