The Rochester Red Wings dropped the series opener to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 6-1, on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field.
Ben Braymer got the start for Rochester and did not make it out of the second inning. He allowed four runs on four hits while striking out two and walking two. Carson Teel was the first one out of the Red Wings bullpen and he tossed 2.1 scoreless innings. Logan Verrett also threw a shutout inning while Jordan Weems allowed a pair of runs (one earned) over two innings.
Lehigh Valley scored four of their six runs in the third. Odubel Herrera started the scoring with a RBI groundout to third. One batter later, Darrick Hall dunked one into shallow center for a RBI single and Nick Maton capped off the inning with a two-run double to left.
The Red Wings scored their only run of the game in the fourth on a fielding error by the second baseman.
The IronPigs added two more runs in the seventh. Roman Quinn drove in a run with a RBI double and later scored on a throwing error by Red Wings catcher Tres Barrera.
Joey Meneses had two of Rochester’s four hits.
The Red Wings will try to bounce back on Wednesday night in the second game of this six-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
